3.5 million hours have been invested into Greenlight games, making Valve most likely very proud of their program, but all good things must come to an end eventually, hopefully, replaced by a better system! According to Valve, about 10 million users have cast over 90 million votes over the five years the program has been active, and over 63 million players have played Greenlight games. Steam has a lengthy blog post about the intricacies and details of the new program that includes some of the finer points of the Greenlight program as well, mostly the successes of the program. There were also many games that flopped really hard, and Steam is looking to get the best of both scenarios with Steam Direct. So many high-quality games saw their way to success through this system, some still sitting at the top 100 selling games ever released on Steam. Like its illustrious predecessor it’s all about sandbox play, about survival and exploration, and about colonizing the brave new world with your real-life friends (in the 4-player coop mode).
